Applications of personal data: Personal psychologist
How can we use our personal data to make our lives better?
Since our childhood, our parents, grandparents correct our wrong doings. We grow up to make best friends in whom we confide about every small detail, and then we grow up to find trustworthy companions to whom we reveal our darkest secrets. Confessions help us navigate through hard times and understand ourselves by guidance and encouragement. From a mentor we obtain guided mastery. These forms of guardians come together in Trunkr. The only difference is, with Trunkr, you are your own guardian. Trunkr, is a self-review system (comprised of a device and an application) that works by documenting an individuals phone conversations and uses data analytics to to drive this self-introspection. Sometimes in the heat of the moment, we end up saying horribly wrong things we didn't mean to. Don't we often distort other people's views to fit our own viewpoints?
How do we understand these behaviours and how do we prevent them in the future?
How does it help?
By using documentation as a way of learning, Trunkr helps the user in reviewing self-behaviour against negative thinking, black & white thinking, over generalization, emotional reasoning, irrational thinking etc.
Listening to a conversation from a third person’s point of view can change its perception completely, giving the user an opportunity to reassess facts and voices of both sides that might have been overlooked in the first instance. When angry or stressed, people do not account for their words and sometimes they come across in a completely different manner than what they intended to. These moods can be held responsible for unreasonable decision-making, but by incorporating the findings from Trunkr, this irrationality can be avoided.
With this holistic viewpoint and practice of documenting and analysing behaviours, we can train people to better understand themselves and each other, and encourage positive behaviour.
